Product Overview

The Richmond musket was produced using the machines and equipment transferred from the Harper's Ferry arsenal, closed on April 18, 1861 to Richmond, the Confederate capital. On that occasion the Richmond State Armory was founded and replaced the Virginia Manufacturing Arms. This gun was one of the most popular during the American Civil War and it was manufactured based on the US 1855 Model with the Maynard type igniting system. It is for this reason that the lock features that overhang on the upper side, which over the years and having seen its uselessness, was eventually lowered to simplify the works. Except for the lock's profile, the brass butt plate and nose cap, the Richmond musket's appearance closely resembles the Model US 1861, the corresponding infantry musket of the Northern troops. The Richmond is equipped with two sling swivels, one fit under the middle band and the other fit in front of the triggerguard. The stock is made of walnut.
