This is a fine mid-18th Century English style trade gun. The Wilson trade gun has an engraved brass butt plate, an iron trigger guard, a very nice detailed dragon side plate and a straight grain maple stock. Overall this trade gun is very similar in style to the French trade guns of the same period. This gun dates earlier than the Northwest Trade Gun.
We offer for sale the “semi-finished” kit from Caywood. The kit is exactly the same as what is offered as from Caywood as the basic Wilson trade gun except for the addition of the sling swivels. The semi-finished kit features a 98% in-letted stock, 100% in-letted barrel and lock, pre-drilled holes in the stock for the tang bolt, lock bots, barrel tenons and ramrod thimbles. The barrel tenons are installed and slotted, front sling swivel is installed, front sight installed, the tang bolt hole has been pre-drilled and tapped, the lock bolts holes are tapped and the touch-hole is drilled and coned. Also included is the safety-use manual, bluing solution and stain. While these kits are not the simplest and not the cheapest kits available we feel they are the best and have the potential to be the best functional finished guns on the market.
Features: The flintlock for this gun is a finely crafted reliable lock the measures 6 inches by 1 1/16 inch. The plate and hammer sport double line engraving. The right hand plate has the classic bow and arrow emblem behind the hammer. The frizzen is un-bridled, as the gun’s early 1700’s vintage would dictate. The 41-inch barrel is 1 1/16 inch at the breech, and then octagon tapered for 8 inches. It features double wedding bands, 3 inches apart in front of the flats, then tapers to the muzzle. A 36-inch barrel is also available with similar profiling. The brass butt plat is engraved with a matching bow and arrow pattern. The cast iron trigger has a hand-forged style. A front sling swivel is also installed and a button on the butt for easy installation of a sling. |
